That first picture is so many things. It's hard to release exactly what it brings up for me.

You're welcome. Breath, art, yes, yes! Beautiful. Ana did another piece, I believe in the same tomb in Yagul, in which she's covered with rocks and she "breathes" her way out of them. (I have seen a video clip of it somewhere, perhaps at the retrospective that was at the Whitney a few years ago.)
Ana is in the air. I just found out the Fondo del Sol Visual Arts Center in Washington, DC, is opening an exhibition dedicated to Ana, called "Latina USA" (with works by 28 women artists). Here's some info: http://www.adn.es/cultura/20090219/NWS-1816-EEUU-Exposicion-afincadas-hispanas-artistas.html

I'm reposting a poem that has always reminded me of Ana's Yagul-tomb flower piece (the first work pictured above) and which mysteriously disappeared from this blog a few days ago. Our of respect for the copyright of the poet, Mary Oliver, I am only including an excerpt. (You can google it and find the rest online.)
White Flowers

Last night
in the fields
I lay down in the darkness
to think about death,
but instead I fell asleep,
as if in a vast and sloping room
filled with those white flowers
that open all summer,
sticky and untidy,
in the warm fields.
When I woke
the morning light was just slipping
in front of the stars,
and I was covered with blossoms....
Never in my life
had I felt myself so near
that porous line
where my own body was done with
and the roots and the stems and the flowers
begin.
