In Love with A. Lincoln, by Maira Kalman

"The occasion is piled high with difficulty. As our case is new, so we must think anew and act anew. We must disenthrall ourselves, and then we shall save our country." --A. Lincoln, 1862

Maira Kalman cracks my heart open again and again. My only sorrow is that her NYTimes blog appears just once a month. In between, I jones. Here's an interesting talk she did on TED.com: http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/maira_kalman_the_illustrated_woman.ht... I know what you mean.

I'm always amazed she can produce as much as she does in a month. And my heart still breaks for the loss of her husband. I remember when they did that incredible book about global fashion:

And please, please put the poem back up in the Salma Hayek post. I miss it so.

Yee haw! Good news! I'm going to have to write a post on my blog about this:

"It has been reported that President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama returned a gift, a Winston Churchill bust, right back to its givers, the United Kingdom.
The Times of London immediately traced Obama's "disdain" for Churchill to Kenya, where Obama's grandfather was caught up in the Churchill-led suppression of the 1950s Mau Mau Rebellion that left thousands of
Kenyans dead.

"It's not surprising that Mr. Obama didn't want Churchill looking over his shoulder," explained one correspondent."

Damn skippy.

Lincoln must have had a hard time freeing the black slaves. Another thing that is interesting is the word disenthrall doesn't have a standard definition (according to Google, at least). I think a more appropriate word in today's world is "disenchant".

Divine! this is so with keeping with my Lenten Journey. I liked her thinking around a lot of things. I am inspired in this season of Lent to focus on my creativity and spirituality.

Hey there! I could have sworn I've been to this blog before but after browsing through some of the post I realized it's new to me. Anyways, I'm definitely happy I found it and I'll be book-marking and checking back often! Abdul Loche
