Openness is our greatest human resource.

A little theory today.

"None of us can ever retrieve that innocence before all theory when art knew no need to justify itself, when one did not ask of a work what it said because one knew (or thought one knew) what it did. From now to the end of consciousness, we are stuck with the task of defending art."

Susan Sontag, Against Interpretation

And, of course, painting by Mark Rothko.

the same can be said of life. the dance between the 'doing' and its interpretation. theory, all too often, usurps experience. especially when we start talking about race. and i just find that backward, lacking in flexibility. not to mention, the creativity necessary to literally make a beautiful life.

If you paint and don't show it to anyone, is it art according to your critical dialogue?
