Speaking Event

Rebecca's comments on her recent UCSB visit:

"The talk was wonderful. It was great to see so many open, thinking people. And the UCSB campus is quite beautiful, right on the ocean, with many impressive older and contemporary buildings. Even though UCSB has 20,000 students, the scale of the campus is still quite intimate and human. Lots of people riding bikes, and lots of students, staff and faculty with happy looking children. I hope to see some of my new friends at the Literary Festival on Saturday. I have a feeling it will be amazing."

Hi, I'm a senior at UCSB and I went to your book reading and discussion. I just wanted to say how touched I was by your words, both in your book and especially in conversation with the audience. Your style and vibe were very refreshing and I connected easily. I literally thought in the first minute you were up there, "wow, this is an awesome woman and a crazily good human being." I don't want to ramble too much here so I'll end by saying thank you, you were wonderful. Best of luck to you always and I hope I get to experience you again sometime. Have a great day and good luck with your first-born and soon-to-be second.

“Rebecca Walker stepped onto the stage and immediately set the tone for ?the next couple of hours. She asked people to move toward the front, so ?we could all see one another and easily speak to each other. Then she ?read from Black, White, and Jewish, pausing between selections to offer ?us the back fill, the story around the writing. Heartfelt and honest, ?her words and voice offered us an intimate window into her life. We, in ?turn, were moved to respond with open hearts and personal questions. We ?had become collectively like family, just by being in the room where ?Rebecca read. It was a wonderful event. Thank you.” -- Sharon Hoshida, ?Acting Director, UCSB Women's Center.
