Jonathan Martin's Blog: Hillary backers come to defense of Palin -

I have to admit, I tend to agree with them. I don't think that a woman should have to defend her choices when she is a working Mother. An American friend informed me the other day that there are 36 million working Mothers in the U.S (haven't had the opportunity to verify this yet) and as I stated in my previous comment, I feel that we are doing them a disservice when we're attacking a high profile female politician for working when she has a family.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loathe Palin's political stance and I hope sincerely, despite being British, that McCain is NOT elected President.

I sometimes frequent political chatrooms, and was disappointed to encounter a group of Democrat voting women attacking Palin for working and the dynamics of her family. I've spent enough time in that particular room over the past 6 years to know that if Palin were a Democrat, they would have been supporting her right to combine work with family. Just because we may support a certain political stance or candidate, it doesn't mean that our sense of fairness should disappear.

In regards to the family unit, my own stances is that I'd like to see more opportunity arise for stay at home Mothers OR Fathers to increase, or an economic and social environment where IF both parents need or want to work, that both could work part-time to encompass family needs and increase the quality of home/work balance.
